Leer es Poder Volar

"Leer es Poder Volar" (Reading is being able to fly) is the name of the reading campaign that we are celebrating this week.  For the first month of school, we just worked on motivation... sharing really fun stories and activities in order to plant the 'love of reading' seed.  We decided to have a 'book fair' as a closing activity to see how motivated the students were to read independently.  We also initiated a 15 minute 'drop everything and read' time in which all of the teachers agreed to participate. When the first bell rang and the school went almost silent, we (the promoters) just looked at each other in amazement.  And as we bring the classes to the 'fair' and see them absolutely absorbed in books, it is evident that we now have 700+ motivated readers.
